Substation Construction Inspector

MacKay Sposito is seeking two full time Substation Construction Inspectors to join the team in Idaho and Oregon.  This position performs physical on-site observation, documentation, and inspection of electrical substation projects to assess and ensure compliance with applicable contract plans, specifications, codes and regulations.  The Substation Construction Inspector position also requires communication of project information to clients, regulatory agencies, and other agencies, peers, and managers routinely. 

Keys to Success:

  • Must have a working knowledge of electrical substation systems including steel structures, electrical equipment, foundations, grounding, control wiring, buswork, etc.
  • Ability to distinguish live parts and experience working around energized facilities.
  • Ability to work under the direction of or act as a lead construction inspector.
  • Ability to affectively document the project through daily reports and photographs.
  • Ability to affectively communicate with the project team including the owner, construction contractor, design team, and project stakeholders.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Seeks continual learning and improvement.
  • Requires demonstrated success in working independently to meet deadlines, act in an Owner’s Representative role, and execute a wide range of inspection activities reliably.
  • Requires ability to maintain composure while under pressure and remain flexible despite interruptions or changes.

Qualifications:

  • Three years of work experience in construction inspection (civil, mechanical and/or electrical) or civil engineering role or 10 years of applicable trade experience is preferred.
  • Must have a current or be able to obtain prior to employment a BPA issued Restricted Electrical Workers Permit.
  • The ability to review project documents electronically (blueprints, project specifications, drawings, etc.) as well as submit comprehensive and detailed daily reports is a critical component of this position – you must be computer literate.
  • Must have proficiency in the following key areas:  Word processing, spreadsheet and email software; and higher math (algebra, trigonometry and geometry).
  • Must be able to walk, lift, carry, stoop, bend, twist and work in the outdoors on uneven surfaces routinely. Typical workday may include exposure to weather extremes and rough or uneven terrain.
  • Current driver’s license and good driving record required. Ability to be insured to drive company vehicles required.
