Civil Construction Inspector

MacKay Sposito is seeking full time Civil Construction Inspectors for various project locations in Oregon and Washington to join the team. As a Construction Inspector, you’ll be responsible for physical on-site observation, documentation, and inspection of construction projects to assess and ensure compliance with applicable contract plans, specifications, codes and regulations.  Locations may vary from projects within the Portland Metro area to semi-remote highway and trail projects.

Keys to Success:
  • Monitor construction daily for conformance with construction contract documents.
  • Observe and report on a variety of work including installation of street improvements, public water and sewer systems, storm water systems, street lighting and traffic signals. Also, certain jobs may require knowledge of dam inspection. 
  • Review schedules, shop drawings, submittals and schedule of values while consulting with a construction manager.
  • Prepare daily reports completely and accurately documenting all work observed.
  • Attend various construction meetings.
  • Manage and answer contractor inquiries and issues.
  • Communicate and follow up with oral and/or written reports including pertinent pictures, regarding the progress of the project to the construction manager.
  • Understand and be completely familiar with the plans and specifications for each job to be inspected.
  • Responsible for job specific quality assurance tasks.
  • Tracking labor and equipment for possible T&M contract work.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 3 years of progressive experience with civil infrastructure projects with an emphasis on excavation, grading, paving, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, potable water, concrete curb and sidewalk and erosion control.
  • Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to read, understand and verify implementation of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe.
  • Candidates who have a Certified Erosion and Sediment Control Lead (CESCL) or equivalent certification desired.
  • Current driver’s license and ability to be insured to drive company vehicles may be required.
  • Must be able to walk, lift, carry, stoop, bend, twist and work in the outdoors on uneven surfaces routinely. Site visits may include exposure to weather extremes and rough or uneven terrain.
